Happy New Year from All of Us at Lawn Force!
What a pleasure to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!
As we turn the page to 2026, I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead for your lawn and garden. After transforming over 500 Yorkshire properties in the past year, we're looking forward to helping even more clients achieve the lawn they've always wanted.
But first - let's talk about protecting that investment during these freezing January days.
Looking After Your Lawn in Freezing Weather
Your lawn's having a well-deserved rest right now. When temperatures drop below 5°C, grass growth virtually stops - which means there's some important "don'ts" to remember :
Stop mowing completely. Your mower should be tucked away until March. Walking on frosted grass damages the blades and stresses the root system.
Keep foot traffic minimal. Compacted soil in winter creates drainage problems that'll haunt you come spring.
Clear fallen leaves regularly. They trap moisture and encourage diseases. A light rake every few weeks prevents fungal problems building up.
Watch for waterlogged areas. Puddles after heavy rain signal compaction issues we can address with spring aeration.
The key principle: your lawn's dormant, not dead. Treat it gently and it'll reward you with vigorous growth when temperatures rise.
What Lime Can Do for Your Yorkshire Lawn
Here's something fascinating - most Yorkshire gardens have naturally acidic soil. That's brilliant for rhododendrons, but your lawn grass struggles in anything below pH 6.0.
Lime application raises soil pH, creating conditions where grass thrives and moss struggles. It's like switching the tables entirely.
The transformation usually takes 6-8 weeks, but the results speak for themselves:
Denser, healthier grass growth
Natural moss suppression
Better nutrient uptake from existing treatments
Stronger disease resistance
We test soil pH as part of our bespoke approach. If your lawn needs lime, we'll apply agricultural lime during the dormant season when it won't stress the grass. Perfect timing for maximum benefit come spring.
Looking Forward to an Exciting 2026
This year brings some brilliant developments for Lawn Force clients:
Enhanced service capacity. We're adding a second fully licensed technician in
February, meaning more expertise into our services. Please look out for Joe!
LF Gardens expansion. Our integrated garden maintenance service proved so popular last year, we're expanding the team. One call for both lawn treatments and garden care.
NEW - The Ultimate Lawn Programme. Our premium service combining weekly cutting with bespoke treatments launched late 2025. Early feedback suggests this could revolutionise how we maintain Yorkshire's finest lawns.
Advanced diagnostic equipment. New soil testing technology means even more precise treatment recommendations tailored to your specific conditions.
Most exciting? We're exploring digital monitoring systems that'll help predict exactly when your lawn needs attention. Professional expertise enhanced by smart technology.
Moss Suppressant Still Works in Winter
Here's brilliant news for anyone frustrated with winter moss growth: ferrous sulphate (moss suppressant) remains effective throughout the cold months .
Unlike weed treatments (which need growing plants to work), moss suppressant penetrates dormant moss effectively. Winter applications can actually be more successful because:
Cool, damp conditions enhance penetration
No risk of grass stress from strong sunshine
Extended contact time before spring growth dilutes effectiveness
Perfect preparation for spring moss removal
We can apply moss treatments throughout winter. Many clients schedule winter moss control specifically because it's so effective during dormancy.
The iron content also "hardens" grass against disease and provides that distinctive deep green colour without triggering unwanted growth .
Thank you for choosing Lawn Force throughout 2025. Your trust in our expertise means everything to our small Yorkshire team.
Here's to making 2026 the year your lawn becomes the smartest on your street!
Best regards,
Lewis
