Proposed update to your moss treatment strategy

Did you know that 2 out of 5 of our customers are now signed up for a fifth lawn treatment each year?

While other climates around the world have as many as six treatments per year, the traditional UK standard has always been four. However, with the wetter, milder winters we’re now experiencing, that standard has been changing — and five treatments a year is fast becoming the new norm for keeping lawns at their best all year round.

Here’s the science behind why many of our customers have already made the switch: grass generally stops growing at around 5°C, slowing down or becoming dormant during colder spells. However, moss continues to grow even at temperatures close to freezing, meaning there’s little to no grass growth to compete with it — allowing moss to spread rapidly over winter.

Across the UK, the average temperatures tell an important story, our winter weather is getting milder:

  • January to February: around 6°C, with spells where temperatures are close to freezing but fewer and fewer days at freezing or below

  • March to October: between 9–20°C, providing strong growing conditions for grass

  • November to December: around 7–9°C, cool and damp — ideal conditions for moss growth

Last winter, many of our customers chose to add a fifth winter treatment, and when spring arrived, the difference was clear. Lawns that received the extra visit came back greener, thicker, and with far less moss, even after one of the wettest winters we’ve seen in years.

This improvement comes down to consistent protection. Our regular products last around 75 days, but as our seasons shift, this additional treatment keeps lawns covered and protected throughout the year.

Our winter visit includes a heavy iron application to strengthen the grass and suppress moss during the damp months. Depending on your garden’s condition, we’ll also apply either:

  • Lime, to balance soil acidity and encourage stronger root development, or

  • Seaweed extract, to naturally boost soil health and winter resilience.

All new Lawn Force customers are now placed on our 5-treatment plan as standard, ensuring year-round results and making sure our professional advice remains fully up to date with current lawn-care best practice.

If you’d like us to make the switch for you, please let us know — and we’ll update your programme.

What more do you want?

I have been using Lawn Force for about 20yrs. At one time they 'raised' Lawn that had sunk in one area, a couple of years after landscaping had been done. People told me it couldn't be done - but Lawn Force did it and the following year you couldn't 'see the join'! They are a great company who charge a reasonable price and are really good at communication. I would highly recommend them.
